Egypt’s Mufti Shawki Allam condemned on Friday detaining Palestinian Grand Mufti of Al Quds Mohammad Hussein by Israeli forces.
The arrest came after Hussein was attacked by the Israeli forces and prevented from giving Friday’s sermon at Al Aqsa Mosque.
"Such provocative acts by the Israeli occupation forces would eventually provoke a conflict in the region and igniting violence which would lead to serious consequences," Allam said in a statement.
Allam called for releasing Hussein immediately, and urged the international community and the UN agencies to put an end to such repeated provocations.
A shooting incident in the Old City of Al-Quds has left at least three Palestinians dead, besides leaving other casualties.
Following the shooting، Israeli police declared that Friday's Muslim prayers will not be held at the holy site.
