Malaysia has deplored yesterday’s violent clashes between the Israeli security forces and Palestinians in the West Bank, which left three Palestinians dead and many others injured, Bernama news agency reported.
In a statement, the ministry warned the recent clashes were a dangerous development that would further complicate the volatile situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
“Malaysia condemns the use of force by the Israeli security forces on innocent and unarmed Palestinians, calling all parties to refrain from actions that could further escalate tensions in Jerusalem’s Old City,” it said.
The statement also reiterated Malaysia’s call on Israel to provide unrestricted access for Muslim worshipers to the Al Aqsa Mosque, stressing that Israel must cease any action that could have the effect of changing the status quo of the Islamic holy sites
“The sanctity of religious sites should be respected,” it stressed.
Malaysia commended and supported the efforts of Jordan’s King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, who is also the Custodian of the Holy Sites of Jerusalem, to restore calm in the holy city.
