Knowledge without Borders (KWB) has organised a cultural event titled “Book Day” at the Sharjah National Park as part of UAE Innovation Week. The aim is to spread culture and knowledge through innovative and creative ways, and to encourage children, students, and visitors of the park to read.
The event included a variety of entertaining activities aimed at all age groups and a wide range of books were made available to visitors, who could gift them to friends, colleagues or family members. Book Day included activities aimed at encouraging children to innovate, such as story-telling sessions at the Knowledge without Borders library located in the park, as well as workshops and cultural competitions for the children.
Rashid Al Kous, General Manager of Knowledge without Borders, said, “Through this event we aim to develop children's creative and innovative skills and help enhance the talents of children and youths. The overall aim is to promote a love for reading in a fun and enjoyable way and create an educated and cultured generation, capable of innovation in the future. Ultimately we seek to foster a love of reading among members of the community.”
Al Kous added that books stimulate readers to innovate and that encouraging reading through different means is the main goal that Knowledge without Borders seeks to achieve through its various programs and events.
Knowledge without Borders was launched as an initiative by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and is supervised and supported by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Organizing Committee of KWB. The initiative aims to establish reading as a noble habit in every household in the UAE, by encouraging the establishment of home libraries, and supplying these libraries with best reads in various domains suitable for the entire family.
