The electrospun fibers can physically block sperm
London - Arabstoday

The electrospun fibers can physically block sperm London - Arabstoday Researchers have created a stretchy fabric can block sperm and the HIV infection.  Researchers at the University of Washington have developed this new method of contraception a nanofabric to dissolve gradually in the body. This is the first time that nanofibres have been considered as a potential method of birth control. The contraceptive, which is being touted as a more “practical option”, is made of a porous material designed to adhere and stay in place then form a gel after dissolving. Because it is invisible, a woman can use it without the consent of her partner and it could be used to coat other contraceptives such as diaphragms or vaginal rings. "Our dream was to create a product women can use to protect from HIV infection and unintended pregnancy," Kim Woodrow, one of the University of Washington researchers, explained to Deutsche Welle. The pill is very practicable but does not offer any protection against infections. Condoms are currently the only way to prevent against sexually transmitted diseases and only offer one tenth of the protection that the pill does.
