Terrorism has become a global risk that recognises no national borders, linked to no certain religion or group and spares no nation from its evils, the UAE Ambassador to Egypt and Representative to the Arab League Mohammed bin Nakhira Al Dhaheri said yesterday.
Addressing a session of the Arab League, held on the sidelines of the Arab Thought Foundation (ATF) conference 'Fikr 14', Al Dhaheri said the UAE had always stressed the importance of promoting centrist thought and culture which can help address the terrorism phenomenon.
"Such culture would lead to emergence of national organisations that spread anti-terrorism thinking and enhance tolerant cultural and religious dialogue, that is capable of countering extremist thought and of formulating legislations to incriminate discrimination, hatred, extremism and violence in Arab countries," he added.
The session was attended by Dr. Nabil Al Arabi, Secretary General of the Arab League, HRH Khalid Al Faisal, Governor of Makkah and Founding Chairman of the ATF, Amr Musa, former Arab League Secretary General and other Arab senior officials.
Al Dhaheri underlined the current challenges facing the Arab world which require more solidarity, integration and joint action.
"There is no other way to ensure better future for the Arab nation than joining forces to confront all challenges, including the terrorism, which is growing at both regional and international levels," he said.
"Terrorism, he continued, "has become a global risk that recognises no national borders, linked to no certain religion or group and spares no nation from its evils, and therefore, it is important to promote centrist culture to address it."
Al Dhaheri also highlighted the Arab League's important role and called for enhancing that role to enable it shoulder its responsibility of strengthening joint action and translating Arab nation's aspirations for a better tomorrow.
He concluded his speech by thanking Prince Khalid Al Faisal and Dr. Nabil Al Arabi for their keen efforts and contributions in organising the conference, held under the theme: "Arab integration: Challenges and horizons".
