5-10cm of snow fell in central and eastern Algeria Algiers - Hocine Bousalah Heavy snow continued to fall across Algeria on Sunday, resulting in road and school closures. "The depth of the snow reached 5 to 10 centimetres, particularly in areas higher than 600 metres above sea level,” a meteorological department report announced. “Snowfall is expected to continue over the next 24 hours.” Snow blocked a number of roads in central and eastern areas of Algeria, particularly in mountainous areas which are suffering from a lack of heating. Constantine suffered very low temperatures throughout Sunday night. In less than two hours, roads, trees, rooves and cars were covered with a thick layer of snow. Extreme weather forced many students to stay at home after public buses were unable to traverse slippy roads. Setif also witnessed heavy snow throughout Sunday.
