Head of Egypt’s parliamentary housing committee Motaz Mahmoud stressed that the current economic position in Egypt is very difficult, stressing the need for thinking in unconventional ways to overcome the current economic crisis. He called the government for revealing its plans to support the investors to work in Egypt during the coming period. He asked, “What are the categories that the government will support in Upper Egypt? What are the measures taken by the government to prevent the import of provocative goods?”
He asked, “What are the measures taken by the government to support tourism and to secure the airports?” He stressed that the government needs to restore the citizen’s confidence and also the confidence of investors to improve the economic position. He stated that the lack of confidence between the people and the government is the main reason for the current crises.
He expressed his protest against the citizenship, saying that it does not offer any advantages to the investors. He added that the government could provide the Egyptian citizenship to the foreign investors who deposit certain amounts of money in hard currency. He added that the proposed law of citizenship, if passed by the parliament, would not support the foreign investors to work in Egypt.
He blamed the governmental routine and bureaucracy for the absence of investors, stressing that the proposed amendments on the citizenship law will not benefit the Egyptian economy. He stressed that the government should take serious measures to provide the poor citizens with housing units in the framework of efforts aiming to resolve the slums crisis. He stressed that the increasing slums is the main reason for the sewage problem.
He added that Although President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi’s program targets the coverage of 50 percent of Egypt’s villages of drainage systems, the government is likely going to reverse the trend due to the limited sources and the deficit.
