Ethiopian PM Desalegne will launch project
Khartoum - Abedalgoum Ashmeag

Ethiopian PM Desalegne will launch project Khartoum - Abedalgoum Ashmeag Ethiopia will export 100 megawatts of electricity to Sudan through an energy line extending between the two countries. Sudanese President Omar Hassan el-Basheer is set to launch the project with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegne. Sudanese economic expert Sayed Ali Zaki said that the idea of electric linkage between Sudan and Ethiopia is going back 30 years, adding that the project aims to support the cooperation between countries with common resources. He said regional insecurity was to blame for the lack of cooperation between African nations, adding that Sudan, South Sudan and other African states could use their electricity to serve the other African countries. He stressed that his country should focus on producing and selling the electricity, adding that Sudan should make notable progress in this sector due to the planned construction of a number of dams over the coming years. He said that Sudan could benefit from implementing the electric linkage with Egypt, adding that there are strategic visions to provide the EU countries with the African electricity through Egypt. Meanwhile, Ethiopian water minister Alemayehu Tegenu has said that its Millennium Dam would not affect the interests of Egypt and Sudan, adding that international experts from Egypt, Sudan and other foreign countries will supervise the project.
