Gabgaba mine sits on 260-tonne gold reserves Khartoum - Abedalgoum Ashmeag Sudanese Prime Minister Omar al-Bashir has formally launched production at the Gabgaba gold mine in the northern Nile state. Morocco’s Ambassador to Khartoum, Mohammed Mae al-Ainain. The new mine will be run by Morocco’s Managem Mining Company. The new project, part of a wider Sudanese programme of economic development, has been hailed as a “symbol of future cooperation” between the two countries. Managem Director Abdelaziz Abarou claimed the mine would produce up to twelve tonnes of gold a year, celebrating Sudanese authorities’ “efficient coordination and sponsorship” of the landmark project. Sudanese Minerals Minister Kamal Abdel Latif announced his government would continue to push development and new projects at the site, revealing that some 260 tonnes of gold reserves had been discovered there.
