The General Secretary of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) Abdelmadjid Sidi Said has delivered a speech, on Friday, on the occasion of the anniversary of the establishment of UGTA. He said that Algeria has not witnessed any closure of business institutions, layoffs or delay of workers' salaries, citing the instructions of the Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Sidi Said talked about the economic and financial crisis that hit Algeria in 2013 and in the beginning of 2014, saying "Fortunately, we have not experienced strong shakes thanks to the wise presidential decisions and national solidarity, referring to the historic Charter for Peace and National Reconciliation proposed by Algerian President Bouteflika.

He also appreciated the great improvement in the relationship between union members and leadership structures, resulting in fruitful environment.

Sidi Said noted that the UGTA reflects the real image of the workers struggle and civil society, pointing out that the union has about 2.6 million members, out of 7 million workers in Algeria, equivalent to 40% of the total working class.
