Werder Bremen's director of sport Klaus Allofs has cast doubt over his future at the club by admitting that he is nowhere near signing a new contract. The 54-year-old has worked successfully in tandem with coach Thomas Schaaf over the last decade, but he has hinted at a parting of ways next summer when both of their contracts are up for renewal. "The thing is, you have always got to ask yourself and consider whether you are still the right man for the job," Allofs told Sport1 television. "A new contract is not a formality for me." However, according to Allofs, Schaaf should put pen to paper on a new deal and move into a 14th year in charge. "There are no signs of wear and tear on him," he said. "Thomas Schaaf is still the right coach for this club." Schaaf's coaching team is also set to be expanded to include Torsten Frings in the future. The former Germany international is currently spending time with the club, shadowing the reserve team coach during the break of the Major League Soccer season. His playing contract with Toronto FC still has over a year left to run on it, but as soon as the 34-year-old's playing days are over, he is set to return to his former club Werder. "It is 99 per cent certain that Torsten Frings will come and work at Bremen after his time with Toronto," revealed Allofs. "He will have a coaching career, just like Dieter Eilts, Thomas Schaaf and others have done here."
