Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti will miss the Spanish champions' La Liga clash with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday due to a knee ligament strain, the club said Tuesday.
Barcelona said in a statement that the French international suffered a lateral collateral ligament strain in his left knee during training, AFP reported today. Umtiti had cemented his place in the starting lineup. His injury however opens the door for Javier Mascherano to return alongside Gerard Pique at the heart of the Barca defense.
