Bayern reaped a 2-1 win at Ingolstadt to seal the 26th Bundesliga title while relegation threated Frankfurt upset runner-up Dortmund 1-0 at the 33rd round on Saturday.

Robert Lewandowski's brace against Ingolstadt helped Josep Guardiola' s men to set a new record by winning the fourth consecutive Bundesliga title, with one round to spare.

The German giants controlled the proceedings from the kick-off, knowing that a win would wrap up the championships ahead of schedule. However, Bayern needed 15 minutes and a penalty to score the opener, as Marvin Matip felled Franck Ribery inside the box allowing top scorer Lewandowski to break the deadlock from the spot.

Douglas Costa should have doubled the lead for Bayern but the midfielder squandered the chance from a promising position. Lewandowski cut a better figure moments later as he made it 2-0 on the scoreboards after marking his 29th goal following a through ball from Xabi Alonso in the 33rd minute.

Ingolstadt had two chances to reduce the arrears but Bayern custodian Manuel Neuer defused Mathew Lecki' s as well as Moritz Hartmann' s effort. Neuer was helpless though Moritz Hartmann converted a foul play penalty in the 41st minute.

After the restart, Bayern piled on the pressure but neither David Alaba nor Costa were able to make use of their opportunities. Nevertheless, the visitors were able to protect their lead to bring home their 26th Bundesliga title.

With the result, Bayern sit atop the standings with an eight-point advantage while Ingolstadt slipped to the 10th place after suffering the 13th loss of the season.

"A big compliment to the staff, our supporters, our outstanding players and to Dortmund, for playing a great season. They were huge competitors. I want to share this title with Jupp Heynckes as we have achieved something really special by winning four titles in a row," Josep Guardiola said after lifting his third Bundesliga title in three years.

Eintracht Frankfurt clinched three vital points in the relegation battle after beating runner-up Borussia Dortmund 1-0.

It was only Dortmund in the opening period yet the best chance fell to Frankfurt as Luc Castaignos' volley forced Roman Buerki to make a diving safe with nine minutes into the game.

The hosts gained momentum and rewarded themselves for their efforts as Stefan Aigner nodded home a corner from Makoto Hasebe with 14 minutes on the clock.

Dortmund lacked in ideas to produce clear-cut chances. They yet overcame Frankfurt' s bulwark before the break as Mats Hummels headed home Nuri Sahin' s pass into path. However, the equalizer was denied due to a supposed offside position.

Thomas Tuchel' s men kept it bowling but for all that they failed to snatch one point on the road against struggling Frankfurt, who sewed up crucial points.

Dortmund stay on the second place with an uncatchable 20-point gap to third placed Bayer Leverkusen. Meanwhile, Frankfurt climbed out of the bottom three for the moment.

Elsewhere, fourth-placed Monchengladbach made a big step towards an UEFA Champions League play-off spot after beating third-placed Leverkusen 2-1 by courtesy of Andre Hahn' s brace.

Ten-men Darmstadt secured their Bundesliga status for next season with a 2-1 comeback victory at Berlin, who suffered their fourth consecutive loss.

Mainz increased Stuttgart' s relegation worries after coming from behind to snatch a 3-1 win on the road.

Bremen' s goalless draw at Cologne was not enough to maintain their top-flight status. Their Bundesliga destiny is at stake at the final round against Frankfurt next week.

Already relegated bottom-team Hannover downed Hoffenheim 1-0 while Wolfsburg edged Hamburg 1-0.

The last round of the Bundesliga season 2015-2016 will be held on Saturday.
