Dutch league leaders Feyenoord booked their 5th consecutive win of the 2016/2017 Eredivisie season by beating ADO Den Haag 3-1 in Rotterdam on Sunday.
Dirk Kuyt earned Feyenoord the lead in the 33rd minute after his first attempt was blocked by ADO goalkeeper Ernestas Setkus. The captain of the home team converted the rebound. Only one minute later Jens Toornstra delivered the pass to Danish striker Nicolai Jorgensen, who made it 2-0.
In the second half, Kuyt hit the crossbar, and four minutes from time Ludcinio Marengo narrowed the margin to one from a rebound. The ADO goal caused a hectic final phase, but Karim El Ahmadi secured the 3-1 home victory in injury time.
Also on Sunday, Ajax beat Vitesse 1-0 in Amsterdam. New signing Hakim Ziyech, who came over from FC Twente for 11 million euros (12.25 million U.S. Dollars) at the end of August, debuted with an assist. The free-kick by the Moroccan international was headed in by Nick Viergever in the 55th minute.
On Saturday, reigning champions PSV needed little time to defeat NEC in Nijmegen. Bart Ramselaar, Gaston Pereiro, Joshua Brenet and Luuk de Jong each scored one goal in the first 24 minutes to make it 4-0. This was also the final result as PSV took it easy, knowing that Spanish giants Atletico Madrid await them on Tuesday in the Champions League. Also on Saturday, AZ beat Willem II 2-0.
After five match rounds, Feyenoord are the only team with five wins, leading the Eredivisie with the maximum of 15 points. PSV are second on 13 points, followed by Ajax (10), AZ (10) and ADO Den Haag (10).
