Israel international striker Ben Sahar has joined Auxerre on a season-long loan with an option to buy from Spanish side Espanyol, the French club announced on Monday. The 21-year-old former Chelsea forward spent last season on loan at Hapoel Tel Aviv in his homeland, scoring 16 goals in 34 matches. Auxerre described Sahar as a "talented young player" and said he was "considered as one of the stars of the future in Israeli football". Sahar became the youngest player to receive an Israel call-up in the 2006-07 season and became his country's youngest ever goalscorer when he found the target against Estonia in 2008. He has scored five goals in 24 international appearances and will wear the number 11 shirt at Auxerre.
