Guillermo Vazquez, coach of the Mexican club UNAM Pumas, said the key for the victory against Venezuela's Deportivo Tachira on Tuesday night was being patient, local media reported on Wednesday.
Mexico's Pumas defeated Venezuelan club Tachira 2-0 on Tuesday night at Mexico City's Olympic Stadium, as part of the 2016 Copa Libertadores Round of 16.
According to Mexican sports daily La Aficion, Vazquez said Pumas "tried until they succeeded" before reaching the penalty shootout.
"The key was to keep calm and follow the path of good football," said Vazquez after the victory of Pumas against the Venezuelan
Vazquez said Pumas "took the necessary measures, made good plays which were enough to go forward. It was not easy, but the team has a good goalkeeper, we insisted and reached victory. I think it was a good game and I am happy for our qualification to the next stage."
About the next rival, Vazquez said it is the same to face Argentina's River Plate or Ecuador's Independiente.
"Both teams are complicated. Of course we know River Plate is the current champion, but still we have to wait and see who is our next rival," said Vazquez.
