Al Zamalek defeated Ittihad El-Shorta 3/2 on Saturday, bringing its score to 66 points and sending El Shorta to the second division.
The three goals of Zamalek were scored by Mohamed Ibrahim, Bassem Morsi (penalty) and Mostafa Fathi.
The win is Zamalek's eighth consecutive one.
The victory over El Shorta helped Zamalek narrow the gap with Ahly to five points but the leaders will regain their eight-point advantage on top if they beat Masry in a rescheduled game on Monday.
El Shorta became the third team to suffer relegation after Haras El-Hodoud and Ghazl El-Mahalla.
Zamalek has still three remaining matches while Al Ahly has four.
