French coach Hervé Renard is the most likely candidate to lead Egypt to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, succeeding the most the successful Egypt coach, Hassan Shehata. The Pharaohs haven't met once since Shehata stepped down following the team's disappointing results in the qualifying rounds for the 2012 African Cup of Nations. Renard is currently coaching USM Alger and has experience with African national teams, as he has worked with Angola and Zambia before. Colombian Fancisco Maturana was also named by some EFA members but hasn't achieved majority approval. Portuguese Vingada was offered the post but he refused. There were rumours about promoting the Olympics coach, Hany Ramzy, after his outstanding success with the team, but nothing official was said. Ahly's Portuguese manager was also reportedly linked with the job. The Pharaohs are at the bottom of Group C with two points from four games and they still have two matches in hand against Sierra Leone and Niger.
