The International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) has signed an agreement as title sponsor of the world's most prestigious triathlon event contested by Olympic and World Champions. The brand new IPIC World Triathlon Abu Dhabi will see close to 2,100 athletes from around the world swim, bike and run around Abu Dhabi's iconic Corniche beach on 6-7 March.
A strong supporter of sports at a grassroots level in the Emirates, IPIC has added the IPIC World Triathlon Abu Dhabi to its burgeoning sports portfolio. The ever-increasing appetite for triathlon in the UAE was a key driver behind IPIC's decision to partner with the IPIC World Triathlon Series.
"Our sponsorship of the IPIC World Triathlon Abu Dhabi represents IPIC's commitment to supporting all levels of sport, from grassroots to professional," said Khadem Al Qubaisi, Managing Director of IPIC.
"Our partnership with the ITU World Triathlon Series season opener in Abu Dhabi is a reflection of IPIC's values in supporting a healthy lifestyle through mass participation sports. We are proud to play our part in the development of triathlons in the UAE. This event provides a fantastic opportunity for all age groups to become engaged in healthy competition, whether that be running, swimming and/or cycling." IPIC's sponsorship is a natural fit with the organisation's vision and future plans of creating a sporting legacy in the capital through investing in developmental programmes that increase participation in sports. Working towards the same goal is event host partner, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, who together with IPIC and other sponsors will be working in harmony to stage one of the best triathlon events the region has ever seen.
"I would like to thank IPIC whose huge support of the inaugural World Triathlon Series event is paramount. The involvement and support of government institutions such as IPIC is pivotal to the success of the event this week and we are glad that we have all the support we need to put on a stellar event that caters to everyone from spectators to participants," said Aref Al Awani, Abu Dhabi Sports Council General Secretary. "We are proud to join forces with one of the leading companies in the capital and we look forward to hosting an unforgettable event this weekend." IPIC has a strong history of strategic partnerships with a number of sporting federations, clubs, and sports providers. Some of the organisation's flagship sponsorships in the UAE include UAE Jiu Jitsu Federation; the Wrestling, Judo, and Kickboxing Federation; Meydan, Real Madrid football Club, the Dubai World Cup and the UAE Women's Football Committee.
The IPIC World Triathlon Abu Dhabi is a great family day out with activities for everyone, from those competing to spectators who can enjoy the interactive Fans' village. Organisers are also staging a junior event, The Aquathlon, part of the IPIC World Triathlon Abu Dhabi on March 6. It will feature distances for children from the age of 5 to 17. For those who would prefer to watch from the side-lines, both events will feature a spectator-friendly environment including a 1,000-seater grandstand.
