His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday received at Qasr Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi members of the organising committee of the 12th Zayed Charity Marathon, which was held in New York recently.
Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the committee members and thanked them for their efforts in making this charitable event an international success.
"Organising such events reflect the approach of the UAE, under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in supporting humanitarian and charitable initiatives," he said.
Sheikh Mohamed underscored the importance of sport events in conveying the message of solidarity and co-operation among the community members towards humanitarian issues.
Lt. General (Retd.) Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, who heads the committee, extended thanks to Sheikh Mohamed for his patronage and continuous support to the Zayed Charity Marathon since its inception in 2005, the proceeds of which go entirely to one of the American institutions specialising in research for the treatment of kidney disease.
He said over 50,000 people took part in this year's marathon.
