Qatari riders won a bronze medal in the team event and bagging the second spot in the seniors category at the Arab Cycling Championship. Khalil Rahman finished second in the 138-km stage with a powerful finish in the last lap. In the team event, Qatar’s Ahmed Albourdainy, Moosa Khalfan, Khalil Rahman Abduljanan and Diego Hosfeldt combined well to pick up the bronze. Morocco and Algeria finished in the first and second positions respectively. The Qatari contingent is headed by Madgid al-Nuaimi, Secretary General, Qatar Cycling Federation (QCF). “Khalil who was at the back of the group finished really strong, surging ahead in the last lap. He showed good form,” said al-Naimi adding it was really tough in the team events. “There was great rivalry among the riders in the team event. Some of the Asian teams are very tough to beat. I congratulate our boys for putting up a good show. They had worked very hard during the off-season. I’m confident of the team doing well in the coming events also,” felt al-Naimi. The Qatari squad had recently returned from Europe where they spent more than three months training under coach Brank Filip. From gulf times.
