The Licensing Agency, Roads and Transport Authority, RTA, has set up an exclusive circuit for practicing the riding of quadbikes at Al Awir 1 in Dubai under the theme, "Safe Driving - More Fun".
The move is aimed to raise the awareness of quad bike users, as well as their parents, about the basics of riding these bikes in a bid to protect them against dangerous accidents threatening their lives and those of other people.
Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA's Licensing Agency, said, "The RTA has always been considering running a diverse array of campaigns and initiatives serving the entire spectrum of the community, particularly those communicating important and useful awareness messages capable of ensuring road safety and achieving RTA's vision of 'Safe and Smooth Transport For All'.
"The initiative included overseeing the quad bike circuit, and holding a plethora of events which attracted more than 600 visitors and participants from various community segments, including students, campers at Al Awir and surrounding areas, among others. Children are offered participation in air-inflated games, and the RTA distributed awareness leaflets and brochures including a variety of information about the use and licensing of quad bikes in the Emirate of Dubai as per Order No. 04 for 2008, which also details different types of offences and fines relating to the use of quad bikes in addition to tips about safe driving in desert terrains, and registration sites. About 270 quad bikes have been registered in Dubai since the start of implementation of the order," said Bahrozyan.
"Designating a circuit for quad bike enthusiasts also signals our teaming up with other government entities, such as Dubai Police, in combating negative practices resulting from negligence and malpractices related to these types of bike, along with the associated potential risks posed to users and others. It also involves cooperating with parents and offering them a thorough explanation of the safety means that have to be taken into consideration during driving such as wearing special protective gear, familiarising them with various types of quad bikes that suit age brackets of their children, and educating them about suitable locations for practicing their hobby while stressing the importance of having an adult in place to keep an eye on children while driving.
"The inspection campaigns continuously launched by the RTA in various desert parts of the Dubai Emirate contribute immensely to appreciating the importance of ensuring that quad bike users comply with the applicable rules and regulations in order to ensure their safety during the practicing of this hobby, which needs knowhow and patient driving in order to protect lives from potential risks," he said.
