Goaltender Brian Elliott continued his promising start with the St Louis Blues after his shutout helped the visitors secure a 3-0 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. Elliott, signed as a free-agent during the off-season, turned away 32 shots to improve his record to 4-0-0 as he retains his place in the starting lineup at the expense of regular keeper Jaroslav Halak (1-4-0). Elliott made his third straight start in place of Halak and is thriving despite not playing well last season. “It’s just not getting down on yourself,” Elliott told reporters, the goaltender having been traded from Ottawa to Colorado last season before landing with St. Louis. “You are doing something right to get to this level so why stray away from your success? “Just keep your nose to the grindstone and just keep working and that’s what I did this summer and continue to do now.” Alexander Steen led the offense with two goals while Patrik Berglund completed the scoring in the final period to help St Louis (5-4-0) win its third straight game. Vancouver goaltender Cory Schneider made 28 stops but could not prevent the Canucks (4-5-1) from losing their second successive game. Schneider was given a fourth start this season in front of Roberto Luongo but did not receive enough offensive support. “We’re getting enough shots to score some goals, but we’re putting our goalies in a bad spot when they need to make every save in the game to keep us in it,” said Vancouver captain Henrik Sedin.
