Seeded players Andy Roddick and Alexandr Dolgopolov were victims of first-round upsets Monday at the China Open tennis tournament in Beijing. Kevin Anderson defeated Roddick, the No. 6 seed, 6-4, 7-5. He had one break in taking the first set and added three more when Roddick was trying to fight back in the second. Qualifier Flavio Cipolla, No. 95 in the world, took out the eighth-seeded Dolgopolov 6-1, 1-6, 6-0. He had five service breaks and only faced two break points outside the second set. Cipolla won two-thirds of the points in the first and third sets. He forced Dolgopolov into a five-set match earlier this year at the U.S. Open in their only other ATP meeting. Fernando Verdasco beat Michael Llodra 6-2, 6-4 without having to deal with a break point and Florian Mayer topped Albert Ramos 6-2, 6-4, losing only 15 points over nine service games. Monday's other results saw Feliciano Lopez top Marsel Ilhan 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) and Marin Cilic sweep by Wu Di 6-2 6-0 in a brisk 55 minutes.
