Petra Kvitova beat Maria Kirilenko 7-6 (9), 7-5 to win the New Haven Open title. Second-seeded Kvitova rallied from the deficit of 2-5 in the second set before winning five consecutive games to notch her win. This is the Czech palyer’s second WTA tournament title in three weeks. The fifth-ranked player in the world has won 12 of her last 13 hard-court matches this season heading into the US Open. She clinched the US Open series championship this past week after winning her first title of the year in Montreal and reaching the semifinals in Cincinnati.
