Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki beat Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 7-5, 6-3 at the WTA Finals in Singapore Wednesday to take top position in White Group of the season finale.
Wozniacki, who earlier beat Maria Sharapova in three sets, will qualify for the semifinal if the Russian beats Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic later Thursday.
Wozniacki took three hours to beat Sharapova in a slugfest on Tuesday and expected another long match against Radwanska but was relieved by her two set win after a tightly contested first set.
"I knew from the start that this wasn't going to be an easy match," Wozniacki said in a court interview.
"I came out there a little bit nervous, but you know, I just did my best out there," added the world number eight, who credits marathon training for raising her fitness level.
