Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay will undergo surgery on Thursday to try to cure an on-going thigh injury, the club has announced. "Ibrahim Afellay will have an operation this Thursday 22 August on a chronic muscular injury in his right quadricep," said a statement on the club's website. The 27-year-old's time with Barcelona since joining from PSV Eindhoven in 2011 has been plagued by injuries, including suffering cruciate ligament damage in September 2011 that kept him out for the majority of the 2011/12 season. Afellay was then loaned out to German club Schalke for last season and has yet to feature since returning to the Catalans during pre-season or their 7-0 hammering of Levante to open their La Liga campaign on Sunday.
