FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has once again stressed that world football’s governing body are doing all they can to prevent sudden deaths in footballers, following the untimely passing of Ediz Bahtiyaroglu at the age of 26. The Eskisehirspor defender and former Turkey U-21 international collapsed at his home on Tuesday following a routine training session. In a letter to the President of the Turkish FA, Mr. Blatter wrote: “I would like to say how shocked I was to hear of the untimely death of the player Ediz Bahtiyaroglu after a heart attack at the age of 26 – a young man with his whole life before him. “As you know, FIFA is continuing to make every effort to investigate the cause of tragic incidents such as the case of Ediz Bahtiyaroglu and prevent them from occurring in the future. “On behalf of FIFA and the worldwide football family, I wish to extend our condolences to you, to the Turkish football community and, most importantly, to Ediz’s family, friends and loved ones.” FIFA
