Montpellier's New Zealand lock Tom Donnelly has been ruled out for up to two months with a knee injury, the French Top 14 club confirmed on Tuesday.
The towering 6ft 7in (2 metres) All Black sprained his knee and damaged the bone during training on Monday and as a result will miss the first four Top 14 games of the season.
Montpellier finished eighth last season and open this campaign against Oyonnax at the Altrad Stadium.
Former Highlanders, Crusaders and Auckland Blues player Donnelly, 33, has played 15 times for the All Blacks since 2009.
