French ski racer Gauthier De Tessieres injured his left knee in a crash during the first super-G race of the 2011-12 World Cup alpine season. Starting from the 24th position and skiing in difficult snowy conditions on Sunday, the 30-year-old De Tessieres lost his footing on one of the curves and then sailed through the air. He landed hard on his back and slammed feet first into the protective netting on the side of the 2,187 metre Lake Louise course. After several minutes of being attended to on the hill, De Tessieres was able to stand with assistance before being taken down the mountain. Officials said De Tessieres has a possible torn ligament in his left knee and a sore right shoulder and will undergo an MRI scan in Colorado, the site of next week's mens races. De Tessieres finished 67th in Friday's final training run and 41st in the first training run.
