Borussia Dortmund have lost three players due to injury as a result of a combative 1-1 draw with Hannover in the Bundesliga yesterday. Germany international Mats Hummels has been forced to withdraw from the national team which faces the Republic of Ireland and Sweden over the coming week after picking up a foot injury which will keep him on the sidelines for a fortnight. Jakub Blaszczykowski faces an even longer break after tearing ligaments in his ankle. The Poland international, who will also be unavailable for his country, has been ruled out for six weeks. Defensive midfielder Sven Bender will also need to rest for a fortnight due to concussion and bruising around the eye. All three players had to be substituted during Dortmund's draw with Hannover, a result which leaves them nine points behind league leaders Bayern Munich. FIFA
