Former official of Algerian Religious Affairs Ministry Edda Falahy said that the holy month of Ramadan was marked this year in the different mosques in Algeria, saying that the ministry launched a nationwide competition for the finest and cleanest mosque in the country.
He added, in an interview with “Arabs Today”, Algerian people during the holy month are characterized by customs and traditions that belong to their religious and cultural diversity. He said that the Algerian people are keen to clean and decorate the mosques during the holy month and to prepare them to receive the increasing number of Muslims who are keen to exercise the religious rituals regularly.
He added that the Algerian Ministry of Religious Affairs was keen to launch a competition to choose the finest and cleanest mosque in the country during the holy month to support the people for participating in this work and to serve the houses of God. He added that they also were keen to call the Algerian people for performing Tarawih prayers inside the mosques this year not to challenge the traffic movement in the streets.
He added that they launched programs to be implemented during the holy month and recruited the preachers to increase their efforts during their sermons in Ramadan. He added that they also organized a competition of memorizing the Holy Qur'an and the prophetic Hadiths of young children and young people in most of the country’s mosques.
He added that there are many virtues of Ramadan and fasting expressed in the Qur'an and in the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet, saying that it would have been enough motivation to perfect our fasting seeking that reward and the pleasure of Allah. He praised the efforts exerted by the government to deepen these virtues among the Algerian citizens during the holy month.
