The governor of South Kordofan state in Sudan, Major General Issa Abkar, confirmed the stability of the security situation as a result of the peace witnessed in the state in the past period. He said that everything seems normal for the first time in years.
In an exclusive statement to Arabs Today, Abkar revealed that the south of Kordofan was affected by the high number of refugees who came from South Sudan. He said that the provinces of Al-Liri, Taloudi and Abu Jbaiha were very affected during the last period because of the great pressure of the refugees on the state's services. He explained that the number of refugees in "Liri" exceeded the local population, as there are about 25,000 citizens in the province compared to 27,000 refugees.
He noted that the state has limited resources suffering pressure, Which resulted in an economic impact on the life conditions of people, besides the security effects, considering that the refugees. He stressed that his government is making strenuous efforts to absorb the negative effects, in cooperation with local and foreign organizations.
In regard with the violations conducted by the Sudan People's Liberation Movement in the North (SPLM-N), whose main stronghold is located in South Kordofan, the governor said that the situation is safe in the state under the cease-fire agreement between the parties, except for some violations in the area, He pointed out that the SPLM-N attacked unarmed young shepherds and killed them in cold blood, pointing out that the rebellion reached a stage of weakness that they depend on robberies in the financing of its troops, while the Sudanese government has deployed additional military reinforcements in South Kordofan state in the last year.
The move came for the purpose of contributing to eliminating armed rebellious movements, imposing prestige of the state as well as achieving stability nationwide.
Upon receiving the forces, South Kordofan governor Issa Adam Abkar underlined the importance of establishing sustainable peace in order to achieve security, stability and development in addition to liberating the detainees at prisons of rebellious movements.
Peace is a strategic goal the country is seeking to achieve so as to make a good use of human and material resources, he said.
