Deputy Director General of Fatah Movement in Gaza Fayez Abu Eita said that his movement works seriously to end the current Palestinian division, saying that he cooperates with the Qatari officials to achieve the Palestinian reconciliation as soon as possible. He added that the current efforts come to extend the previous meetings conducted between the leaders of the two movements last year in the Qatari capital of Doha.

He added, during an interview with “Arabs Today”, they still have a number of controversial points between the two Palestinian movements, saying that a number of proposals have been sent, as Fatah has responded to them. He stressed that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas did not discuss any details over the reconciliation during his recent visit to Qatar.

Abu Eita added, “Qatar’s leadership said that they sent our ideas over the proposals submitted by Hamas to their leaders, while they have not responded yet.” He expressed his movement’s aspiration to receive Hamas’ response as soon as possible to pave the way for further moves towards the Palestinian reconciliation.

He added that Fatah has not received any response from Hamas over the Qatari proposal to end the Palestinian division. He added the Qatari government exerted increasing efforts since June to end the Palestinian division, while Hamas has not given any response to the Qatari proposal.

He warned Hamas of any potential steps to form an independent commission to manage the Gaza Strip, saying that such a step meets the aspiration of the Israeli government that works to separate the Gaza strip from the West Bank. He stressed that such position serves the Israeli interests not to commit to the two-state solution.

He added that the current moves taken by Hamas supports the Israeli government headed by Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to challenge the two-state solution and to undermine any opportunity aiming to achieve the peace process. He called Hamas movement for paying attention to such plans that should be confronted by a unified Palestinian position.

He demanded Hamas to support the coming steps to form a national unity government paving the way for holding presidential and legislative elections, praising his government's relation with the Arab countries describing them as strategic relations. He added that the Palestinian Authority builds its relations with the Arab partners upon the strategic interests.

He praised the recent visits conducted by the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to a number of Arab states, saying that these visits aim to form a unified Arab position from the Palestinian issue before the launch of the coming Arab Summit scheduled to be held in Amman on March 29.

He stressed that Abbas will focus during the summit on the necessity of holding a serious dialogue with the American Administration over the future of the peace process. He added that the Palestinian Authority does not adopt a position against the negotiation with Israel, while it insists on holding serious talks on the basis of the two-state solution.
