Member of the political office of the Popular Front for Palestine Liberation, Rabah Mahanna, has criticised the decision taken by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to return to the negotiation table with Israel. He called on Palestinian people to protest against the decision, looking into legal ways to exercise "real pressure" on Abbas. Mahanna expressed his front's support for current efforts looking into forming a Palestinian coalition, incorporating different factions, to express refusal against the negotiations. “Majority of Palestinians are against this step,” the party member told Arab Today. “Our party has not authorised anyone to be part of these negotiations and we have called upon authorities to suspend these as soon as possible,” Mahanna added. “Palestinian national rights are a matter of consensus among not only Palestinian people, but also the Arab nation as a whole,” he went on to say, stressing the need to keep unity among the Palestinian people to resume their “struggle against the Israeli occupation.” Mahanna urged national and Islamic powers to bear the national responsibility to help achieve national reconciliation and restore national unity in the country. “We must aim to turn to the United Nations to gain full membership and join the different organisations, including the International Criminal Court (ICC), for our country’s benefit,” the Palestinian official stated.
