Mainz won their first-ever game in the Europa League group stage thanks to Levin Oeztunali's late strike in a 3-2 thriller at Qabala on Thursday.
The Bundesliga outfit led through Yoshinori Muto's goal before half time but Ruslan Gurbanov's penalty and Sergei Zenjov's counter either side of the hour turned the contest in favor of the Azerbaijani hosts, German news agency DPA reported today. However, substitutes Jhon Cordoba and Oeztunali struck in the 68th and 78th minutes to put Mainz top of Group C.
St. Etienne host Anderlecht later and could topple Mainz of the top of the group.
