Caroline Garcia of France won the 2016 Strasbourg WTA title by easily defeating Mirjana Lucic-Baroni of Croatia 6-4, 6-1 on Saturday. The 22-year-old player, currently ranked 55th in the world for women's singles, won the final in just under 1 hour and 15 minutes. Chinese player Liang Chen, winner of the 2015 Strasbourg WTA women's doubles, made it to the doubles final before losing to a pair of Spanish players. The 27-year-old Jiangsu native, ranked 42nd in the world for doubles after ranking as high as 35th last October, reached the final with 28-year-old Argentinian partner Maria Irigoyen, but failed to beat Anabel Medina Garrigues and Arantxa Parra Santonja, both 33 years old. The Spanish team defeated their opponents 6-2, 6-0. On Friday, Liang faced and defeated her partner of last year, 31-year-old Chuang Chia-Jung from Chinese Taipei, who reached the semi-final with 32-year-old Croatian partner Darija Jurak. The Internationaux de Strasbourg, formerly known as the Strasbourg Grand Prix by the WTA, is played outdoors on clay courts and has been held since 1987.
