China's Lin Dan failed to make to the much anticipated duel with his nemesis Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia as the two-time Olympic champion lost his quarterfinal of the Badminton Malaysia Open here on Friday.
Lin who would face home-favorite Lee in the final four if both win in the quarterfinals, lost to Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark 21-17, 21-4 in just 32 minutes.
"I made some mistakes on several baseline plays in the first set, and Jorgensen was playing great today," Lin said, adding that a foul call on his service by the referee at crucial point in first set distracted him from the remaining of the match.
Top seed Chen Long became the only Chinese shuttler qualified for the men's singles semifinals after beating teammate Tian Houwei 21-16, 21-16.
For the women's singles, Wang Yihan secured one semi spot for China as she put on a convincing victory against an out-of-form Carolina Marin of Spain 21-13, 21-15, ending a recent winning drought against the world no.1.
Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei became the killer of Chinese players as she downed Wang Shixian 21-14, 21-14 on Friday, after beating Li Xuerui 14-21, 21-18 and 21-16 on Thursday.
In the men's doubles, Chai Biao/Hong Wei defeated South Korean Ko Sung Hyun/Shin Baek Cheol, while teammates Zhang Nan/Fu Haifeng lost to another South Korean pair Kim Gi Jung/Kim Sa Rang.
Tang Yuanting/Yu Yang became the only women's doubles pair of China sailing through to semifinals, winning over Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi of Japan 14-21, 21-17 and 21-18.
Top mixed doubles seed Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei continued their winning streak by beating Singaporean Danny Bawa Chrisnanta/Yu Yan Vanessa Neo in two sets.
