Imperial College London Diabetes Centre's (ICLDC) fourth annual ‘Play for Life Ramadan Football Tournament', part of ‘Diabetes-Knowledge-Action', the nationwide public health awareness campaign under the patronage of Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, kicked off in Abu Dhabi's National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) last night. Running nightly until August 18, from 9.30pm until 11pm at Adnec halls eight and nine, the tournament's presenting sponsor Mubadala A became the highest scoring team of the opening round but it remains to be seen if they can maintain momentum. They beat Masdar 5-3 but were closely contended by Yashat, who netted 4 goals against UPC (4-2). Shaikh Tahnoun Bin Saeed Bin Saif Al Nahyan played the first ball to open the event as the seven-aside football tournament proved its popularity among Abu Dhabi corporate companies for the fourth year running. Sixteen teams of 300 players are taking part in this year's round robin format. The teams are arranged into four groups of four teams playing matches of 15 minutes each way.
