Midfielder Julian Draxler has suffered a thigh injury and will be ruled out for the upcoming encounters, the "Wolves" confirmed in an official statement on Thursday.
The Germany international sustained a torn muscle in his left thigh during the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal exit at Real Madrid on Tuesday. According to Wolfsburg' s statement, Draxler will be out of action "for the moment" .
"I am disappointed and it is a pity that I cannot help my team to achieve our season goals. I am going to do everything to recover as quickly as possible," Draxler said.
Draxler' s injury is a heavy set back for the eighth-placed "Wolves" , who sit six points adrift of Bundesliga' s top six.
The 22-year-old midfielder joined Wolfsburg from Schalke in the summer 2015 to quickly become a key player, providing five goals and five assists in 20 appearances.
"That is a bitter news for Julian and Wolfsburg. We wish him a quick recovery. It is now important for us to compensate the loss in the short term. We are well positioned in the midfield and we will find a good solution," Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking said.
