A non-commissioned officer was killed and 12 people were injured when an explosive charge went off during a security campaign on a terrorists' hideout in Giza's Mariyotiya area, a security source said.
In statements to MENA on Thursday, the source said security agencies received a tip that a number of terrorists were hiding in an apartment in Libini Street in Mariyotiya area.
Taking all needed security measures, security forces stormed into the apartment and found several explosive devices there.
While inspecting the explosive devices, one of them went off, leaving behind a non-commissioned officer killed and 12 others injured, the source said.
Sappers have defused the rest of the explosive charges, the source said.
The explosion scene was sealed off, the source said.
