Cairo - Akram Ali

Political analysts in Egypt are warning President Mohammed Morsi’s ruling regime that current policies could lead to a civil war. The debate comes after former deputy Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood Mohammed Habib said the government “lacked the experience” necessary for running the country. Political science professor Ahmed Abed Rabbu told Arabstoday that Morsi’s administration must bear responsibility for ongoing tensions, condemning the fact “citizens are turning to attack one another now.” “Policies adopted by President Morsi have led to the current divisions,” he claimed. “Only poor Egyptians pay the price for these conflicts.” International relations academic Ihssan el-Sheikh also blamed the government for recent events. “The president doesn’t listen to anyone,” she said. “The middle class will be responsible for fixing this situation. The people should work to reclaim their social and financial rights in peaceful ways.” Former deputy Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood Mohammed Habib had previously blamed Morsi’s administration for an increasingly fragmented political landscape in Egypt.
