A moderate earthquake has rattled southern Haiti, causing some people to run out of buildings in fear. There were no immediate reports of damage. The United States Geological Survey is reporting that the magnitude 4.6-quake was centered 24 miles (38 kilometers) southeast of the capital of Port-au-Prince and had a depth of 3 miles (4.9 kms). It struck at 9:51 p.m. EDT. Some residents of capital ran into the streets in fear, remembering the January 2010 earthquake that devastated the capital and surrounding area. That 7-magnitude quake killed 314,000 people and toppled thousands of crudely built homes. There were no immediate reports of death or serious damages from Wednesday’s quake.
