An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 shook Fukushima Prefecture and its vicinity in eastern Japan on Sunday night, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. No tsunami warning was issued. The temblor measured lower 5 on the Japanese intensity scale of 7 in the towns of Naraha and Tomioka in the prefecture, according to the agency. Tokyo Electric Power Co. said there were no fresh abnormalities at the Fukushima Daiichi and Daini nuclear power plants following the quake, according to Japan's (Kyodo) news agency. The quake registered 4 on the Japanese scale in some areas of Fukushima, Miyagi, Ibaraki and Tochigi prefectures. The quake's focus was in the Pacific off Fukushima Prefecture at a depth of about 50 kilometers.
