Egypt will host the 15th African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) on March 2-6, during which Egypt will take over the two-year presidency from Tanzania.
The conference will be held at the 5-star Dusit Thani Lakeview Hotel located in New Cairo’s Fifth Settlement.
The session will consist of a meeting of the expert group, to be held from March 2 to 4, and a ministerial segment, to be held on March 5 and 6.
The opening ceremony for the ministerial segment will take place on March 4.
The 15th session of AMCEN will focus on harnessing Africa’s environmental assets, looking at policies and strategies to support Africa’s economic transformation and growth. The session will therefore be held under the following theme: "Managing Africa’s Natural Capital for Sustainable Development and Poverty Eradication".
AMCEN is a permanent forum where African ministers of the environment discuss mainly matters of relevance to the environment of the continent.
AMCEN was established in 1985 when African ministers met in Egypt and adopted the Cairo Programme for African co-operation. The Conference is convened every two years.
