The chilly mornings and evenings UAE residents have been enjoying these past few days may be cut short on Wednesday as temperatures are expected to rise for two days but the mercury will drop again by the end of the week.
The UAE experienced a significant drop in temperature over the last four days due to the prevailing north-westerly wind coming from colder areas such as Iraq, northern Iran, eastern Mediterranean.
On December 9, the lowest temperature was recorded at Jais Mountain at 7C at around 7.30am. But just three days later, the lowest temperature in the country was recorded at the same place at 2.5C at 5.45am.
Forecasters from the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said the UAE will have partly cloudy skies on Tuesday but it will be hazy at times. Relative humidity will increase by night and early morning over some internal areas that may cause fog or mist to form.
Forecasters said the north-westerly wind that is causing UAE’s fair weather will be replaced by warmer air beginning Wednesday but will last only two days
“By Wednesday, the prevailing wind affecting the country will be south-easterly to south-westerly coming from the Empty Quarter. This will cause an increase in temperature by around 2C to 4C over internal areas and 1C to 3C in coastal areas. This is only a slight to moderate increase,” a forecaster told Gulf News.
But forecasters expect this to change by Friday as north-westerly winds coming from colder areas will again affect the country. The maximum temperature will not exceed 25C or 26C over the coastal areas and 28C or 30C in internal areas.
Geographically speaking, winter in the UAE starts on December 21. The core of winter is in December and January when the lowest temperature is recorded.
