Another drinking water crisis emerged on Friday when abnormal water quality was detected in an east China city's Yangtze River water source. The water supplies in Jingjiang, Jiangsu Province, were suspended when a strange odor was detected around 10 a.m. on Friday morning and backup water was brought on stream at 4:40 p.m., according to the city's publicity department. Samples of water have been sent for testing. The alternative water source from a pasture ecopark can meet Jingjiang's water needs for a week, but the scare has still prompted panic buying of bottled water. Tens of boxes of bottled water were sold in a city supermarket in less than 20 minutes.
