Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water has said increasing waste production average is a big health and environmental concern and efforts should be put together for finding sustainable solutions to this menace. He said this in a statement which was delivered on his behalf by Dr Mariam Al Shanasi, the undersecretary at the Ministry of Environment and Water on the opening of a two-day Conference on ‘Paper and Plastics Recycling’. He said that individual solid waste production has increased nationwide and is considered one of the highest in the world. ‘The problem will have bad repercussions in the future unless we treat it’. He added that recycling industry plays an important role in waste management integrated matrix and hoped that the conference would contribute positively in developing recycling process and increasing its achievements.
