The floodwaters in Beigeng, China, have begun to recede, local officials say. The town, located in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, was nearly submerged in a flash flood that began Wednesday, Xinhua reported. The water began dissipating Friday Local epidemic prevention departments have started to monitor the town's water supply to watch for possible contamination of the drinking water, said Li Zhaohui, the acting county head of Xincheng County, where Beigeng in located. Li added that post-flood reconstruction had begun, although some of the homes in the town were still submerged, and that traffic had resumed. About 2,142 acres of farmland were destroyed by the flood and several of the town's roads. No casualties had been reported.
