Floods in South Africa and Mozambique leave hundreds homeless

Hundreds of people have been made homeless by heavy flooding in South Africa and neighboring Mozambique, officials said on Thursday. The floods caused by heavy rain prompted many to seek refuge on roof tops and in trees and an evacuation of the Kruger National Park, a game reserve in northern South Africa. Rescuers using helicopters pulled 150 people from submerged houses in the area. More than 60 pupils were saved from a school that was flooded. In the Mozambican capital Maputo, officials said the floods left hundreds homeless and caused extensive damage to property.
